The Sound of Phiadelphia at 40

My latest Smithsonian.com piece is on the 40th anniversary of the founding of Philadelphia International Records by Kenneth Gamble and Leon Huff. Together, they helped produce the sounds of the 1970s steering artists like The O’Jays, The Intruders, Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes, The Spinners, and Billy Paul to the top of the charts.
